knystrom18
Is this even possible? I just tried that to no avail, but is there a script or anything someone's seen/heard of that'll allow this to happen?Something like: padding { background-color: #999;} Might be useful in some way... thescientist
http://www.w3schools.com/css/css_padding.aspa simple workaround could be a background image.
knystrom18
True. I just thought it might be useful for developers who want to get a quick idea of what's padding vs whats margin. Just a thought that crossed my mind.
Synook
Why not just have a thick border?
knystrom18
Don't borders mess with dimensions or positioning?
Synook
They do, in the same way that padding and margins do . If you don't want to modify the box at all, use the outline property.
knystrom18
Ah. Wasn't aware that padding/margins fuxed with dimensions/position the same as borders did.Thanks.
Synook
In the old IE box model, padding and border are included in the width, but in the W3C model, everything is added on the outside.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_Explorer_box_model_bug
