PHP Form e-mail validation

Instead of

do this

if (empty($_POST['email'])) {  $problem = TRUE;  $emailSpan = '<span style="color:red; font-weight:bold;">*Your email address</span>';}else {  if (!check_email_address($_POST['email'])) {    $problem = TRUE;    $emailSpan = '<span style="color:red; font-weight:bold;">*Your email address</span>';  } else {    $emailSpan = '*Your email address';  }}

Instead of

do this

This did not help it still allowed me to put anything in there and go to next screen without a warning
