Table of fixed size where contents outside the limits are hidden.

I need a table of a fixed size. I notice that many times when I use table-layout: fixed; that the table will STILL resize itself if the contents I put in the table are larger than the table is set to. What I want is a table of an ACTUAL FIXED SIZE. Meaning it NEVER changes and the contents the spill over the edges should be hidden. My browser is FireFox4. Does anyone know how to do this. I'm being driven mad by all this styling stuff that is very difficult to work with.Thank you!
