I've never really thought about it but I see these pages that end in a directory but I have no idea what the file is that I'm looking at. For example: http://www.rebtel.com/en/Get-Help/faq/This page does not work with http://www.rebtel.com/en/Get-Help/faq/index.htmlhttp://www.rebtel.com/en/Get-Help/faq/index.htmhttp://www.rebtel.com/en/Get-Help/faq/index.phphttp://www.rebtel.com/en/Get-Help/faq/index.asphttp://www.rebtel.com/en/Get-Help/faq/index.aspxSo how do they achieve this? Is is some property in the .htaccess file that allows this?

You can use the Apache mod_rewrite module to load arbitrary content for a given pattern of URLs. Note that you can also direct Apache to load files other than those called "index.*" as the index page of a directory, however.
