Develop / Design

I consider myself a developer and designer because at the moment, I generate most of the imagery in any site that I make, think of the color scheme and the layout, and don't just put content in, or build the structure of a site.I've assumed that in the "real world" the design and development parts of a site are quite different professions with two separate individuals working together to achieve an aesthetically pleasing and efficiently functional website. Is this the case? Or are people/is it expected to be able to be a developer/designer combo all the time?Just curious. :)

Didn't we just have this discussion? :)A LOT of smallish organizations need one web person who does almost everything. Having a big skill set can get you those jobs.A lot of people freelance and also do everything. Some may freelance AND specialize and subcontract the things they don't do well or quickly.Big design firms may have a lot of specialists, but even a shop with 6-10 workers may expect you to pick up any kind of task that needs doing. You can't always depend on a balanced workload. Again, the bigger the skill set, the more likely you are to get a job. Having something you are ESPECIALLY good at is probably a bonus.
