how do you create a secure (so the padlock icon is on the status bar) website using php (if you can) or just in general how do you go about doing it ??-thanks

That's not PHP's job. It's a server setup. If you don't believe me, look at the URL of a secure page. It begins with https://, not http:// as non secure pages do. And how the server machine handles different URL shcemes is configured prior on that machine, not on-the-fly by a server side script.In order to set up secure pages in... let's say Apache... you need to set up it's server configuration properly and I think you also need something like OpenSSL in order to make Apache run properly. But most importantly: you need to buy a digital certificate.

gotchya, thanks..i don't own a server, i have an account with streamline.net so i can't do anything like that, and they probably won't let me. but thanks for the help!

MrAdam, This might not be the case, more than likely they already have it installed.Ring there customer services or email there tech support and ask abouthaving shared SSL installed and for details on it.Normally there is an option in the web hosting control panel to enable SSL, some companys allow you to add a SSL on your domain for no additional charges, some charge for this and some have a "shared ssl" which means they give u a address outside of your domain and you use that to send data encrypted and then redirect back to your site when it is done.hope this helps.
