    xml file

PLease right click the xml file. choose PropertiesGo to the Security tab.You said you are using IIS5 right? So if there is not a user account called ASPNET in the list you need to add it and give it Read and Write permissions.
  3. it is best to post the whole code so we can test it to find the trouble.
  4. And I have been wasting all this time trying to make my sites look good...oh wait, I actually want them to stay....lol.hmmm maybe I can come up with some business idea and just have a nasty site with google ads.The fact the ads (on plenty of fish) is centered and down a bit from the top makes it look a bit like a navigation bar....a pretty good trick.
  5. You can adjust settings to not do things like that...but I agree Notepad 4 life!

The board doesn't support straight html in topics or replies. If you type html tags it will replace the < with & lt; and > with & gt; (take away the space between & and l and g)
  10. it is possible but the only way I know is to place 'layers' over top of your text (transparent, absolute positioned divs)

    BLINK

It is a tag only supported by early versions of Netscape. If caused text to 'blink' quickly with multiple colors (red,blue,green,yellow....etc)It was very irriating!
  13. Frontpage produces the worse, most uncompliant, bloated code of any html editor available and what's worse, it costs over $200.I would STRONGLY recommend against using Frontpage. If you must use a editor, I suggest hand coding with NotePad, use Dreamweaver.
  14. I cannot speak for Kajim but a quetion about downloadable versions was brought up several times in the past and it came down to not wanting to provide this because then w3schools would lose its users. If everyone could just download or print the tuts then there would be no one visiting the site and the site is supported by users and ads.So because of that and the fact that Kajim is very busy and trying to write new tuts too it is not likely that this will be available any time soon (or maybe never). This is just my thoughts on the subject and by no means the final word.

    ASP.Net

Some people do get confused when you tell them ASP.Net can be written 2 different ways (C# or VB)All the tutorials are written in VB so you will need to either write VB or convert them. This utility will convert the code for you.http://www.developerfusion.co.uk/utilities...vbtocsharp.aspx

    xml file

You need to give access permissions to the xml file. The best thing to do would to give the folder that holds the xml file the proper permissions and then set the xml file to inherit it's permissions from its parent (the folder). If you are running IIS5 (XP) the asp.net user account is ASPNET and if you run IIS6(Win server 2003) then the user account is NETWORK SERVICE.You must give the proper user account write permissions to the xml file.
  20. The amount of the background that is shown is based on how big the webform is. If you use CSS to set the width and height of the element that contains the back to the width and height of the background image then it will all get shown

  24. I open and close the connection with each query (potentially many ope/close per page) and enclose each query in try/catch and on error I close the connection to be sure none get left open.I don't know if this is the most efficient way but I don't think that have 1 connection per session open all the time is a good idea. You will use up your connections quickly if you will have 300-400 users at a one time. You are asking for connection errors with that, IMO
  25. You will need the System.Web namespace
