  1. hhmm.... i just pain stakingly read thru ALL "11" pages of this topic, cause i'm looking for an editor. i use dreamweaver and love it like crazy. lol. the first one i used was actually vim on linux. then a lecturer had us use dreamweaver just a lil- and i fell in love at first sight. :blink: but looking back, i really think that it was the laziness in me and the fact that i really hated coding of any sort that got me attached to dreamweaver- cause i use to "only" use it in design view. when i look at the code view- i use to get instant headache cause everything looked like greek and hebrew :) but things have changed now. i realised i was learning nothing after a loooong time. poor me :blink: . so, i changed my attitude towards programming and started teaching myself from scratch what i could and should have known a long time ago. :) . so, right now i ONLY use dreamweaver in code view.i think what i like best of all about dreamweaver is that if i change the name of a file- it can automatically update ALL other files that links to it. also, i can search for a particulr code or work and change it in an entire folder and even in an entire local site- folders within folders, within folders. so i dont have to punish myself to do those manually where i might make a millions mistakes.anyway- dreamweaver is giving me some problems right now- getting fatal errors. so i'm looking for a good editor that can at least do what i just mentioned! i think i'll personally try a few that i see here then eliminate. :)

  2. Would that by any chance be when you hover over the "Command" menu?
    nope. if i simply open a file and edit any lil thing- especially if i try to save, i get that error. let me see if i can open it and see what the error actually says. i know it says something about javascript and something about the File_Save.htm and File_Save.js files in the macromedia folder.hhmmm.. its playing games on me now-- playing cute. but i'm not digging the cutenes cause it happened toooo many times. so- yesterday i started going thru this thread about html editors-- i'm gonna try a few of them then pick 1 or 2. but i really like dreamweaver tho. :)
  3. yup. you are certainly right. it is calendar and not calender. shame on me! :):) hhhmmm..... i did use fireworks for all the images. ok.whats fuzzy? the entire header image or the text?well, i think i've got me a bad problem tho. i use dreamweaver- but only in code view now. all of a sudden when i open dreamweaver and try to do anything, i am getting a fatal error where the program has to close. thats nooot good at all, cause my cd & dvd drives need some attending to, which means that i cant reinstall the program. hmmmmm..... anyway- thats just by the way....

  4. ok- i'm back.uhhh... the php i was gonna use- i did not use it. i'm really a php newbie- so things did not work out all that well. but i did some changes nonetheless and other additions. * the 'current' top navigation button is changed.* i lightened the body colour with a ligher blue.* i added a calender* i added the date* i added a calculator- javascript. i'm by far not a javascript fan tho, but... my php calculator i was trying to do did not worked out, so... (the javascript is not my original coding tho- well, only the gui- not the backend).* i tried to make the wording on the header more pronounced* other stuff- but the above are the main ones i think.and ohhh... ssi made me pulled out my hair. so i had to glue them back in this morning. :) since last week it had me reeeaaaal puzzled and confused- but i figured it out just a while ago actually. the server was not displaying the site "at all". i was clueless as to why. and that was since last week eh. the problem was that i was using "virtual" when it was suppose to be "file". that was my fault i guess- carelessness.

  5. Uuhhhhh... still that ugly mesage that says: "The connection has timed out. The server at ww2.aspnetguy.com is taking too long to respond". (Firefox).You have set up your own hosting huh? Respect to you man. lol.Well- it might be crazy- but start all over from scratch and save yourself the headache and precious time of trying to figure out what you may never figure out.NB: I really hope by now that you have made some headway tho.

  6. hi CStrauss

    As you can see the nav bar on the left doesnt expand all the way down. to fill the empty space. Eventually I will make a nav bar graphic that I would like to fill that entire section so regardless of how much content is in that section it will reach the bottom if you know what i mean.
    i did a lil mock temporary image just so u can see how it looks. i just placed this in your outter class
    background:url(CStrauss_inner_bg.gif) center repeat-y;

    here is how it looks (i'll delete this after)some other notes from quickly rushing through ur css code:your features, affiliates and site_info id's all have the exact values, so i combined them into one instead (left_nav u can rename it).u don't have to use <strong> in ur html for everyhing u want to bold. just make use of the font-weight in ur css document. (eg. font-weight:800;)in ur body background u have this

    background-image:url(../images/body_bg5.gif);background-repeat:repeat-y;background-color:#003359;

    combine them into one like this:

    background:#003359 url(../images/body_bg5.gif) repeat-y;

    hope this helped

  7. ok ZeroShade, i am really not sure exactly what it is that u r looking for. but i came up with this nonetheless. it may not even be what u want tho. good luck. shout back and lets see ur progression. ps- having a site we can look at will be nice tho.

    <style type="text/css">#prodlist{	font-family:sans-serif, verdana;	background-color: #CCFFCC;	border: solid 1px #BFCCD7;	cursor:text;	}#prodlist ul,li{	list-style:none;	text-align:left;	margin:0 auto;	padding:0 1px 0 1px;	}	#prodlist li{	display:inline;	position:relative;}#prodlist a {	border-left:1px solid #CFD3E2;	font-size: 11px;	text-decoration: none;	line-height:18px;	color: #000000;	padding:3px 9px;	cursor:text;}#prodlist a:hover{color: #000000;padding-bottom:1px;border-bottom:2px solid red;}</style></head><body><h1>Inline list</h1><div id="prodlist">   <ul>	<li><a href="#">ice cream</a></li><li><a href="#">smile</a></li><li ><a class="last" href="#">malt</a></li>	<li><a href="#">big </a></li><li><a href="#">sugar city</a></li><li ><a class="last" href="#">water</a></li>	<li><a href="#">happy</a></li><li><a href="#">Caribbean</a></li><li ><a class="last" href="#">hide me</a></li>	<li><a href="#">Guyana</a></li><li><a href="#">yes yes yes</a></li><li ><a class="last" href="#">Hahahahaaaaa</a></li>	<li><a href="#">visit me</a></li><li><a href="#">indent</a></li><li ><a class="last" href="#">house</a></li> 	<li><a href="#">friendly</a></li><li><a href="#">inline</a></li><li ><a class="last" href="#">www</a></li>	<li><a href="#">be happy</a></li><li><a href="#">St. Kitts</a></li><li ><a class="last" href="#">Help</a></li>	<li><a href="#">water is the best</a></li><li><a href="#">laugh</a></li><li ><a class="last" href="#">help</a></li>	<li><a href="#">i hate frogs</a></li><li><a href="#">coding</a></li><li ><a class="last" href="#">yes and no</a></li>	<li><a href="#">whoaaaa</a></li><li><a href="#">css</a></li><li ><a class="last" href="#">flip</a></li>  </ul></div></body></html>

  8. css is easy as 1---2---3but then again- everything can be as easy as 1---2---3 depending on ur approachas long as u keep an open mind- u'll learn it quite easily and quickly!i personally NEVER liked programming of any sorts. i use to do very poorly in it. but now that i look back, i know that it was because of my attitude towards it. i changed my attitude (but i'm still struggling with it whenever i look at programming languages that i dont know "as yet")... and i'm doing ok thus far.so- keep a positive attitude- and u'll do fine!!! :)

  9. hey DeathRay2K and ElectroSciTech,u guys gave a lot of food for thought. i have to go out now, but when i get back i'll think about it all and see how well it fits in.but ElectroSciTech, what do u mean when u said, "The last issue that I have is that I really like the overall design and look, but as I saw in your other replies, it seems that if I like it, the rest of the world will not like the colors or the layout. I hope that this is one of the times that other people will like what I like."? just wondering.we'll catch up.lataz

  10. have you made your navigation menus into SSI files
    hmmmm... nope. actually, i did not even thought about that. shame. i have not touched any php as yet. was gonna tackle it from 2moro evening.
    You might want to play with the header graphic - the yellow font is ....
    ok- i'll play around with it and see.
    give the page some depth.
    meaning? tell me more...indent? u mean just for the source code, or for the information- content?ok Skemcin. i'll step on it 2moro nite.thx for the critique, suggestions and the comment.D
  11. ok- i'm back.i did some work on the site.THIS IS THE NEW UPDATEfor me- in terms of design, i'm basically done: unless the people need something changed or u guys see something that can be fixed. don't hesitate to shout back at me ok. i'll appreciate it.what i wanna do now is to try to use a lil php- which i'm not that versed in as yet.... for an email form and to calculate fees and tax.anyway- i have one lil question (if i ever ask a direct question in this forum, it's because i would have tried my whole belly out in doing it, but to no avail). yup- thats my personal rule for myself- don't ask unless u have tried it all.anyway- in the top navigations i can click anywhere on the link. however, on the current navigation (still talking about the top) on the present page (whichever one u r on at that time- the navigation should be yellowish then) i can only click on the words itself instead of anywhere in the navigation button. how can i get it to click anywhere instead of only on the words?thx for ur response.and thx for the other critiques as well. i love critiques- especially the bad ones. weird huh! lol :)

  12. Avoiding absolute positioning is always a good idea. It creates many headaches when you are trying to make your site cross-browser friendly.
    aaahhhhhhh...... thanx for the tip!
  13. try to:give the element an id and float it left or right.or use the position attributes.Edit: aspnetguy responded a couple seconds b4 i did- i did not realised. ohh well- that's the idea.good luck.

  14. thanks mod. i was beginning to get a lil' uneasy as i read through the post.anyway... what books am i reading?hmmmm.... let me see. :) i'm reading the Bible, Prayer and Praying Men, my diary.....oohhhhhhhhhhh... u meant computer books?and by the way, who said i could read? lol :):) well- the only computer books i have on my shelf are C++: How To Program, COBOL: From Micro to Mainframe, Systems Analysis and Design Methods, Ray Tracing, Data Structures and Algorithms...... and i have not entirely read out any of them.that's it!!!these days i hunt the internet viciously. Google has become one of my best friends! u can't blame me!

  15. Ok, lets see if I can do this right to get the picture up. As you can see, i would like the list of items shown in a single row. cokepic.JPG
    set your display to inline:display:inline
  16. first heading in rounded box "MARITIME ADMINISTRATION DEPARTMENT" is slightly above the box.... is it how its supposed to be? if not correct it.
    The only thing I feel that it's not right is the headers on the center column. The first one is higher then I feel it should be. It should be below the white line that's drawn in the background. In IE7, it's even more shifted above then in Firefox.
    thanx- i actually fixed that 2 days ago, but i have not been able to upload my latest corrections and additions. probably later tonight.
    a bit too much blue, that is all. Other than that I like it very much
    well, that's the color they wanted- so i tried to do a variation of the same color. but thx much!
  17. ok- i took the comments and tried to do some adjusting. here goes:(HERE IS THE NEW LINK)

    ... the blue and yellow navigation.... the yellow is a bit intense...I would choose something more muted.
    Changed the color
    When I opened with IE 6, at the top of the "rounded box" its not properly aligned; slightly shifted towards left.......... in the same line, the left menu "Our News Archive" is also shifted left
    That's now fixed.
    On the right side; light blue background for heading "Latest Highlights" does not completly cover it. background is short so only "latest" has the BG.
    Fixed.
    The navigation should somehow show what page you on currently on, so if you are on the about-marad page, the link to it should be removed from the navigation and replaced with some static text, and maybe a slightly different background image so it is clear that the user is on that page and to prevent the page from being self-refrencing.
    Fixed, but for now, only the first row of the top navigation. and in the left menu, only 'About MARAD' sub menu.
    Also, on most (all?) pages, below the navigation but above the rounded box you have some yellow links right aligned. Is there a reason that those are not part of the main navigation above?
    Taken out... now permanently apart of the top navigation.
    I like it Ible... even like the yellow in there... I'm quite impressed if you did this in 5 days and it's your first site.
    Thanx. well- it's really my 3rd official site--> my second try at using css--> my first professional site. thanx all !!!(HERE IS THE NEW LINK)anymore comments, suggestions, critiques? they are welcomed.ps- i did not get to do anything else much. yesterday and last night i basically ZZZzzzzZzzzZZZzzzZzzZZZZzzzzzz............. yup- i zzzzzzzzzzzz in the afternoon, went to a food fair and a thx giving service, came back home last night and zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...... somebody's body is trying to tell them something!
