mpoer
I accidently put http://http//jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/ as a link on a web site I was doing (obviosuly it ought to be http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/). But I didn't notice until I clicked the link, and it redirected me to non other than www.microsoft.com. Why does that happen? The only way that could happen is if W3.org set that particular subdomain, http//jigsaw to redirect. But why would they do that? Has anyone heard of this before? Jonas
Didn't happen to me when I clicked your link. I was just redirected to the classic 404 Not Found page: <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//IETF//DTD HTML 2.0//EN"><HTML><HEAD><TITLE>404 Not Found</TITLE></HEAD><BODY><H1>Not Found</H1>The requested URL //jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/ was not found on this server.<P><HR><ADDRESS>Apache/1.3.22 Server at www.any.com Port 80</ADDRESS></BODY></HTML>
Chocolate570
You're using firefox, I bet. It auto-searches for a site that matches the name of your 404---and takes you to microsoft.com half the time. Ironic, no?
Skemcin
this is interesting.IE and Opera both give you the 4040 page not found page without redirecting. FF looks to pick the first search result it find (from maybe google) and takes you there. Netscape doesn't do the "I'm Feeling Lucky" auto redirect and simply conducts a search on their site.Definitely a browser configuration issue.
