  1. Hey man,

tried to send you a PM, but was told you couldn't receive those. What's up? Happy to see this place still operational. Keep up the good work! :)

I got the joke at skemcin even without emoticons, but only in light of having just read the other post with the "retinas throb" and "bandwith crisis" being so over-the-top this had to be the same. Especially the "someone hit you with a blue and green towel" part was hilarious. :)But yeah, emoticons go a long way.

Too huge, and the colours quite an eyesore. Please shrink/preferably remove entirely.
  4. Don't think so, no. Three makes a majority possible in a referendum (whatever the topic might be), two would make a stale-mate never leading to decisions, and one would make a dictatorship, which nobody wants... :)Plus, it's useful to be more than one or two, so that when one moderator goes unactive for a while, such as for instance during exam studying, or while recently having fathered his third son, there's someone to cover the vacuum.
  5. Yeah, I never expected this to be a "hot" forum with heated discussions, because let's face it, the topics are not very controversial and we are all just trying to learn here. In short, you guys make our job easy. Hopefully, and seemingly from the positive responses, we have achieved this. Or maybe he just started with that name because he had no expectations either way. Little did he know he would turn out to be more than justsomeguy, but rather one of our most active and helpful members...
  6. There's no right or wrong with what comes down to subjective opinion. It's not really bad. Nor is it particularly good, however. It's just... bland. Personally all I can do is wish you good luck with getting members, it's really down to the fates, could go very well and could go nowhere. Either way I don't think a webdevelopment forum can be directly bad. But there are a lot, and yours doesn't stand out. How you can improve it and make it stand out I'm not able to say, because I don't know the target you're aiming at, like is there a spesific technology that spearheads the forum, is there a parent developing site with tutorials that the forum is based on (like this, most people come to the forums through w3schools.com). Hey, that's your call to make. We ARE critiquing it, but you just don't want to hear the answer. Uniqueness and innovativeness is what marks the web, and on a broader level the entire economic system and society/culture. Sorry, but that's how it works, and that's what people have been telling you so far, that the forum is ok, but there's nothing really making the forum stand out. This forum for instance can almost afford to be bland, because it has a solid basis in the tutorials site w3schools.com, and thus there's a lot of experienced webdevelopers and good help to be gotten. That again attracts more people. Why shouldn't they be allowed?

    PERL Forum

A subforum looks just like a regular forum. The difference is that you make the superordinate forum functions as a category. Like, have you ever clicked on one of the category names?Server Scripting Categoryhttp://w3schools.invisionzone.com/index.php?showforum=31

What fine print is there to read really? You can only post in either the Perl forum we set up, or the Python (or whatever may come after, like Ruby?) forum. Not very complicated really. Pick CGI forum, and then pick spesific language forum.Don't see why people stick to CGI personally if it is true that it's so much slower than today's languages.

    PERL Forum

How about a CGI forum under the category Server Scripting, with two subforums Perl and Python? I know it will make it easier to find the threads particularly for Perl/Python, and it will save us checking and moving threads later on. I think that's the best solution. It would look like this:

Hmm. A CGI category, I like that...

We'll see about that forum when the other guys chime in.

Well, with the Cold Fusion one, skemcin compiled it, because he's the resident CF'er. I did the JSP one starting from the main site, java.sun.com.So it would be like this:http://www.perl.com/pub/q/documentationhttp://www.perl.com/pub/q/FAQshttp://www.perl.com/pub/q/resourcesand then maybe some good unofficial site. I don't know anything about what's good resources or not, so there you go...

Could you also compile a post of useful (official and unofficial) resources like in these threads:http://w3schools.invisionzone.com/index.php?showtopic=6706http://w3schools.invisionzone.com/index.php?showtopic=13338?
