At work I am 1024x768 but dual 15 monitors - so its really 2048x768.At home I am 1152 x 684 on a single 21 inch monitor.

I use two screens at work each at 1600x1200 (so, 3200x1200) but I typically resize my browser so it's about 1024x768.

As per the stats for my website about 80%+ of the people use 1024x768. At work I use 2 17" monitors at 1024x768 each. At home I have a dell 20" 1680x1050.

i have 1280x1024 at both home and work. However, often we have to switch to 1024 because we change our secondary monitor often and that new one often is an old CRT monitor that doesn't support anything beyond 1024x768 or supports 1280x1024 only at 60Hz which in the office environment means a lot of tremble (there are lots of electromagnetic fields there). So, having that said, I checked 1280x1024 as it's my primary resolution and for the second, I checked 2 as I do have a secondary resolution.

my 15" laptop runs at 1640x960 or something near it
I cant think that running your laptop, if it truely is only 15 inch, at a resolution that high can be good for it, and may cause eye strain, I would recomend using 800 by 600 or 1024 by 768 at most.
