mordie
There is no Web tutorial site better than W3Schools. Period. It's not even a question. So that's why W3Schools.com MUST create a detailed tutorial on how to make tableless Web pages correctly with CSS. Only W3Schools.com can do this correctly WITHOUT wasting my time. Are you for this suggestion?
boen_robot
Creating tableless layout is a matter of skill, not about knowing the possible things. A single pointer in the table section of the HTML tutorial about not using tables for layout would be enough.

scott100
Well the tutorial could look something like this: http://www.w3.org/2002/03/csslayout-howtoI think at the very least there should be some try it examples on the w3schools site.
Jonas
http://glish.com/css/http://www.macromedia.com/devnet/dreamweav...s_concepts.htmlBoth those sites are useful as to reading about table-less designs.I also stumbled over this link... http://www.westciv.com/news/podguide.htmlCSS reference ready to go on the ipod. scott100
But do you agree Jonas that W3schools must create a tutorial/try it yourself in relation to tableless layouts?
Jonas
Don't know really. I wouldn't say "must", but I suppose it could be useful. Personally, I didn't "learn" anywhere particular how to make a tableless design. It's really a step you get to as you learn css positioning and floating and see what that can do.Sometimes however, you have to make (nested) table-layouts, if you want a left portion to extend with the right. Example:http://www.home.no/jvelde/example/If my "main" content section is filled with content (extends downwards), instead of my menu stretching, I have a table cell under that will stretch instead. Brendon Branigin
im just now getting the hang of css layouts and i would have loved to have tutorials on w3 (as opposed to me having to search the alvit web developer handbook for different methods) i think a series of articles/turorials on layout in css would be great (including divs that stretch to = height of longest div,) things that most new css devs want to do but have to search everywhere to find, and then when they do find it theres no community to help them with it. w3 is a great site but without tutorials on layouts i personaly think its incomplete. kurtsfar
I agree, but it could be a tutorial for all kinds of website layout explaining the pros and cons with each and one of them. And among the different layouts present a table-less design that describe the basics and don't use hacks since those usually create a domino-effect. It is clear that w3school's goal is to teach the basics and not the advanced, as well as function as a useful reference. A tutorial like this - maybe named website layouts - could still be a basic one. They would - however - have to change their own layout that actually use tables for layout
