duncan_cowan
On my register page I have included an other page which has a table on it but when i view the page the table is quite far down, also when i highlight a space before the table it also highlights a colum in the table. Also when i add a colum to the table The table goes 1 line down.the code for the the table is: <form action="regformcheck.php" method="post"><table align="center" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="3"> <tr> <td> <font color="#FFFFFF">Username*: </td> <td><input type="text" name="uname" maxlength="40" style="width:150px;height:17px;border:solid 1px black; font-size: 11"> </td> </tr> <br><br> <tr> <td><font color="#FFFFFF">Password*: </td> <td><input type="password" name="passwd" maxlength="50" style="width:150px;height:17px;border:solid 1px black; font-size: 11"> </td> </tr><br><br> <tr> <td><font color="#FFFFFF">Confirm Password*: </td> <td><input type="password" name="passwd_again" maxlength="50" style="width:150px;height:17px;border:solid 1px black; font-size: 11"> </td> </tr><br><br> <tr> <td><font color="#FFFFFF">E-Mail*: </td> <td><input type="text" name="email" maxlength="100" style="width:150px;height:17px;border:solid 1px black; font-size: 11"> </td> </tr><br><br> <tr> <td><font color="#FFFFFF">Location </td> <td><input type="text" name="location" maxlength="150" style="width:150px;height:17px;border:solid 1px black; font-size: 11"> </td> </tr><br><br> <tr> <td><font color="#FFFFFF">Show E-Mail? </td> <td><select name="show_email" style="width:100px;height:17px;border:solid 1px black; font-size: 11"> <option value="1" selected="selected">Yes</option> <option value="0">No</option></select> </td> </tr><br><br> <tr> <td colspan="2" align="right"><input type="submit" name="submit" value="Sign Up"> </td> </tr><br><br></table></form> Is there any way to stop this from happening? reportingsjr
Please dont use font tags and other deprecated tags! Use CSS, also close your tags, and do it the more correct, up-to-date way..
aspnetguy
bah, thats some horrible html coding =[. No offense man..Dont use font tags and other deprecated tags! Use CSS, also close your tags, and do it properly..His code is valid! Not everyone wants to write XHTML (although that is always a good idea) his code looks like valid HTML 4 to me. aspnetguy
Its just that he didnt close the tags. Thats what's messing up his page.. *edits previous post*yes that is true I thought you were refering to <img> and such, also font tags are not depreciated in HTML only XHTML.Technically I don't thing you have to close the font tags (you will not get what you expect but it will still validate). justsomeguy
It's always good to close all tags. If you don't close the tag, you are forcing the browser to guess, and we all know how well that goes. Also, don't do this:</tr><br><br>Content in a table only goes inside a <td></td> tag. Any other content (such as content between </tr> and <tr>) will be displayed above the table. So, all of those <br> tags you have after your </tr> tags are being moved above the table, which is why the table appears so far down the page.If you want to space your rows out, either put <br> tags in your <td> tags, or insert a blank row:<tr height="10"><td> </td></tr>
Skemcin
every tag should be always closed. it is a standard of pracitce everyone should get into just as much as using quotation marks in defining the values of your attributes is too.but demanding that one person do it versus suggesting is different. lets all keep in mind that there are many ways to do things and that some people know little more about one thing than the other might. Furthermore, just because someone knows and amount of server side scripting language does not by any means mean they know HTMl or XHTML. In fact, I learned cold fusion in thr process of fixing someone elses web pages. This guy knew NOTHING about HTML. Our boss literally hired him to write teh applications and me to dress them up. So lets all try to keep things in perspective.plus, depenind on the browser you use, many of these missions ware not eviedent.thanks
duncan_cowan
thanks the end tags must have accidentaly been wiped off when i was editing it!!
MoZo1
I agree, it's a weird HTML. It can cause a lot of error in every browser, but to find out, wich one you need to fix, use Firefox's DOM inspector from the Tools tab, or with Ctrl+Shift+I.
