You can put a link code into a textarea by typing the anchor tag into the textarea, but it will only show as data inside the textarea. It won't be clickable.

No tags would function in textarea.

i had the exact same problem once before, i scrapped the idea of using a textarea and use this instead...

some of these settings can be removed/changed/added to, to suit youre style

in order to create what most of the forums have these days - formatted textarea inputs - you need to use a 'WYSIWYG editor', google "WYSIWYG".
