  1. My feeder gold fish is 4 years old. (the type that's supposed to feed the larger fish and live for 3 weeks) :) I have another one that's 2 years old. My 6 year old died a couple weeks ago :)

  2. Post #4: Contact Questions------------------------------------------How do I get together with my team and discuss? There will IRC channels set up for this project where discussions can take place. How do I get to these channels? You can use an inbuilt chat client like Chatzilla, a program client like mIRC, or a web-based java client, like pjIRC. The last one will be provided. Can I be a moderator on the channels? No. Not unless you're a manager or a moderator on the forums. How do I contact the managers?Through the chat channel or through an instant messenger or email. Of course PM is always open too! Does the manager HAVE to give his contact details out?No! Of course not! If you like your privacy, then you just have to say so. PM and the chat channels should be enough to contact you.How do I contact YOU, Choco?PM me, email me @ chocolate570@gmail.com, chat with me at uglierfruit@hotmail.com on MSN, talk to me on google talk. And of course post on the forum!

  3. Post #3: Your Ideas------------------------------Well, I think we should...Good. PM it to me. Don't waste a topic on the forum on it. I'll respond to your PM and tell you what I think. What happens if you like my idea? Then I'll alert the team managers to tell their teams about the ideas and how to implement them into the application.Do I get credit? When you submit your idea, you forfeit your credit---the only credit you'll get is if you are working with one of the teams.Do I have to tell you how to implement the idea or give code for it?Yes. Maybe not the code, but if you tell us you want some amazing feature, you'll have to tell us how to make it. This application is not imaginary :)

  4. It's ok, justsomeguy. If you like arguing, you're in the right place. What do you think a forum is for? :)Besides the hacking incident, I can't recall any other times where, when we desperatley needed kaijim, he hasn't turned up. All these other things are pretty trivial.

  5. Mime's are also useful when creating dynamic images---make the image with server side scripting and then make the browser think it's an image and proccess it as one, giving you the dynamic image. :)

  6. Well, there is no point giving one of us mods adminstrator privelages---if anything important needs to be done, we can contact Kaijim and ask him to do it. But usually, nothing like that springs up. If we ge a skin made, i can guarantee it'll be installed within the next 2-3 days. Admins are busy with running the W3S site, so their responsiveness is not really in their hands, judging by the amount of work they have updating and maintaining such a huge resource.

  7. Aspnetguy is correct, Skemcin is correct, Jonas is correct, Dan is correct, and everyone else is too.It can be both a bad idea and a good idea, like all suggestions. But Dan, you're thinking about using this the wrong way. Rewards would mean nothing. I think anyone who has been answered correctly by a person can raise that person's reputation NOT so that the person can get a reward, but so that other people can see how reputable and well-informed this person can be. But Skemcin has a point---ranking systems on forums are usually bad ideas past moderator, member, and adminstrator.I don't know what to say, but that's what I think.Choco

  8. Post #2: Deadlines-----------------------------How much time do we have to code?About 3 weeks. When will this time start? After all of the preperations, voting, and decisions are made. What about the rest of the deadlines?Read above. What happens if we don't meet a deadline? We'll extend the deadline by 1 or 2 days, but if it's still not done after that, then we'll have to cut features out of your part of the project (javascript, xhtml, php, etc.)You know what? I think the deadline should be...We don't care. :)

  9. Post #1: Hierarchal Overview--------------------------------------------Who will be running this thing? This project will enlist 3 managers for each group of coding. The managers will be nominated and elected after the project details have also be voted on. This voting will take place soon. These managers will priside over a group of people who will be coding each specific part of the project. There will also be one manager (elected by you, but a bit later) who will collect the bug list from his (smaller) team. What teams and how big will they be?The types of teams will be decided after we decide what type of project we will be doing. They might be broken up into something like PHP, Javascript, CSS/XHTML or ASP, VB, CSS/XHTML/Javascript. They will be about 10-15 people each, but it really depends on how many people will be willing to join the project. Can I be manager?Get someone to nominate you and we'll put you on the ballot. Please can I be manager? No. If you beg, we don't put you on the ballot. No questions asked. Can I nominate/vote for myself?NO! We can't stop you from voting for yourself, but you can't nominate yourself. What's stopping me from regestering 30 new accounts and voting for myself?Us. All new IP's shall be checked and compared to all other accounts. If we find a match...let's just say you'll be pretty bored on the computer for a week.

  10. Hello, members! We moderators have decided it would be a great oppurtunity for everyone on this forum to work together on a big, open-source web-based project. Due to the fact that this project will be done by the members, everything will be decided democratically. If you still have questions, which you should, thouroughly read the posts below. A linked table of contents is part of this post, so you can skip around if you want--just read it thouroughly. Any questions raised that can be answered by this topic will be met with a stoically posted "Click this link, and try reading next time."With all of that said and done, we will now commence the project! Remember to read everything...and enjoy it!~W3S Forum StaffTable of Contents: (click on arrow to open in same page and link to open in new)

    Discussion Topic: Here

  11. Excuse me while i faint at the ludicrous oppurtunities microsoft has to screw up the new "Internet Deplorer: Taking out the internet, one exploitation opening at a time". Maybe it'll have png transparency and the added feature of a counter to count how many viruses get through. Ahh, the possibilities... :)

  12. Here's how to do what Moridin said.First, create a file called "navbar.php". Put the nav bar code in that file, and JUST the nav bar code. This is the file you will edit whenever you want to. Also, it doesn't have to be .php---it can be .html or whatever, but just to simplify this, keep it as .php.Next, rename all your other pages to .php, or .shtml---again, keep it.php to simplify this. Replace your nav bar code in all of the pages to:<?php include("navbar.php"); ?>After that, your pages should all display your navbar perfectly, and when you change navbar.php, they all will change. Hope that helps. :)

  13. I hope Myspace sues Microsoft(coz ie has the exploitation opening with the whole java/nscript thing) and then Microsoft countersues Myspace and they both go bankrupt with the legal fees. Not that I have something against Microsoft--it would just be DARN funny. :)

  14. Hey guys, I'm saying this in a friendly way---calm the tention down please. Thanks. And also, most of the people who complain about linux, mac, and unix have never used the aforementioned in their lives. Sometimes I feel like screaming at them to get their own freaking opinions, but i guess they can't help it---they're just not literate. Suppose you're at a party. Let's not make it a cocktail party, because otherwise, it would be a cocktail party hosted by your IT company. You're a guest, and have no clue about computers. You're surrounded by nerds. The karoke is playing songs like "Your speakers make me want to cry" and "you gotta know when to hold it and you gotta know when to double click". Someone comes up to you and asks "So, what's your favorite OS?" Are you going to look absolutetely stupid and say "Uhh, I can't pronounce any of them" or say "Oh, definitley windows is the best. I hate Mac!"? Ding ding ding! Correct! And don't give me and dumb stuff about "it's better to tell the truth and look stupid." It's a metaphore to forums and blogs---look stupid and keep it in your net reputation or look cool? Nice choice.Just a rant from me.

  15. It's a pretty good idea. Would be nice to have some various, often-used answers to repeated questions, but then that would almost defeat the purpose of W3S itself... :)

  16. Try putting it in base form. I was reading an article the other day saying something about how every word in the english language has an equation to equal it in base 64 or something... I just scanned it (with my eyes), but i'll try to find it again. :)

  17. Javascript works the same way as php does. Not the same, but similar. Both have objects, variables, arrays, etc, and most constructors and signs are the same. They both know what functions are, how to initiate them and how to call them, namely with brackets. Comments are the same. This is what I mean. I know that javascript has other functions than php has for the same thing, of course, it is another language. To set the type of a string to an integer, javascript uses Number(), where php uses settype() or gettype() to see what has been set. But the language construction is very similar. This would make it easy for people who are already used to javascript, and want to learn php too But the fact that I say this, is only my opinion, I don't claim it is easy to learn php or whatsoever. Maybe I shouldn't have said anything in the first place.
It's that way because both are based on C, like I said.
